The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) issued a public warning after a counterfeit draft surety bond (polizza fideiussoria) policy was reported to it in the name of Länsförsäkringar AB (publ), which the insurer has disowned. Länsförsäkringar AB (publ) informed IVASS that the email and certified email addresses shown in connection with the draft are false and not attributable to the company. The insurer, headquartered in Sweden and supervised by its home authority (Finansinspektionen), is authorised to operate in Italy under the freedom to provide services in various non-life classes, including class 15 (Surety), but it does not issue surety bond policies, as also indicated in the Register of Insurance Undertakings and Groups (RIGA). IVASS recommended caution when assessing insurance offers and advised consumers to verify, before paying any premium, that quotations and contracts are traceable to duly authorised insurers and intermediaries by consulting the relevant IVASS online registers and warning lists.
