The National Bank of Romania released provisional monetary statistics for December 2025, reporting broad money (M3) of RON 795,408.3 million, up 3.5% from November and 7.2% from December 2024 (down 2.2% in real terms year on year). Narrow money (M1) stood at RON 481,582.3 million, comprising RON 137,658.9 million in currency outside the banking system and RON 343,923.4 million in overnight deposits. M3 was fully accounted for by M2, with no contribution from other financial instruments; on the counterparts side, net foreign assets fell 2.1% month on month to RON 391,998.7 million while net domestic assets rose 9.5% to RON 403,409.5 million. Credit to the non-government sector reached RON 447,337.2 million (+0.1% m/m; +6.2% y/y), with leu credit down 0.6% m/m and foreign-currency credit up 1.6% (1.5% in euro terms); government credit rose 6.0% m/m to RON 279,903.4 million. Resident non-government deposits increased to RON 676,028.9 million (+4.1% m/m; +6.9% y/y), including RON 463,794.9 million in leu deposits and RON 212,234.0 million in foreign-currency deposits (EUR 41,626.7 million). The next release, covering January 2026 monetary indicators, is scheduled for 24 February 2026.
