The National Bank of the Republic of Tajikistan held a meeting with Visa International Service Association to discuss the development of modern digital financial services, the introduction of innovative technologies, and measures to strengthen cashless payments through Visa payment cards. Visa outlined a business-plan agenda for rolling out and expanding new payment services and technologies at Tajikistan’s credit institutions that participate in the Visa payment system, including in support of the Presidential Decree of 22 June 2023 No. 586 on expanding cashless payments. The initiatives discussed included Visa+ transfers using phone numbers, enabling Google Pay and GarminPay on Android phones and Garmin smartwatches, cashback for Google Pay transactions made with Visa cards, and reducing interchange fees for payments for certain types of government services. The central bank’s chairman, Firdavs Tolibzoda, welcomed Visa’s initiatives and expressed readiness to continue cooperation on developing modern financial infrastructure in the country.
