The HKMA directed readers to a hyperlink on its website to the bank’s press release. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS messages or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS (including via embedded hyperlinks). Individuals who have provided personal information or conducted financial transactions through or in response to the fraudulent websites or login screens were advised to contact the bank using details in the bank’s press release and report the matter to the Police.
