The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) published a scam alert referencing a bank-issued warning from The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited about a fraudulent website, following reports made to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded the public that banks do not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks that direct recipients to bank websites to carry out transactions, and do not request sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. Individuals who have provided personal information or conducted transactions in response to the scam were advised to contact the relevant bank and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
