The Central Bank of Peru reported that Peru posted a trade surplus of USD 3.473 billion in May, up USD 1.518 billion from the same month in 2025. On a rolling 12-month basis, the trade surplus reached USD 44.431 billion through May 2026, while the surplus for January to May rose to USD 19.509 billion from USD 10.511 billion a year earlier. Exports totaled USD 9.415 billion in May, up 38.9% year over year, driven by a 31.2% increase in average export prices and a 5.9% rise in export volumes. Imports increased 23.2% to USD 5.941 billion, mainly reflecting higher purchases of capital goods, oil and petroleum products, and durable consumer goods. In the year to May, exports rose 40.1% to USD 47.345 billion and imports increased 19.5% to USD 27.836 billion.
