The Bank of Portugal, jointly with Statistics Portugal, has republished the 2024 Portuguese Household Finance and Consumption Survey after identifying an error in the final household weights used to extrapolate responses to Portugal’s household population. The correction, which excludes education from the calibration procedure, reduces estimated mean net wealth by 7% but leaves the survey’s qualitative conclusions unchanged. Corrected results show that mean and median household net wealth rose by about 29% in real terms between 2020 and 2024, reaching EUR 298,400 and EUR 151,800, respectively, largely because of higher house prices. The main residence represented 55.6% of real assets, while deposits accounted for 74.6% of financial assets. Some 41.6% of households had debt, with median debt of EUR 35,300 among indebted households, and the prevalence of high indebtedness was lower than in earlier survey waves.
