Speaking at the Jordan FinTech Festival 2026, Central Bank of Jordan Governor Adel Sharkas outlined an approach that pairs financial innovation with smarter supervision as Jordan seeks to become a regional platform for developing and exporting fintech. He reported that electronic payments through CliQ, eFAWATEERcom and card purchases exceeded 695 million transactions worth more than JOD 50 billion in 2025, equivalent to about 118% of gross domestic product. The central bank’s regulatory toolkit covers digital financial identity, electronic know your customer checks, open finance, regulatory technology and virtual assets. Its JO REGBOX regulatory sandbox has tested 12 products from 12 companies across financial and insurance services, open finance and virtual assets, allowing risks and effects to be assessed before the bank develops an appropriate regulatory response.
