The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert following a press release by Shanghai Commercial Bank Limited about a fraudulent website and an internet banking login screen that had been reported to the HKMA. The HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, nor will they request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS (including via embedded hyperlinks). It advised anyone who provided personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent website or login screen to contact the bank using details in Shanghai Commercial Bank’s press release and report the matter to the Police via the Hong Kong Police Force Crime Wing Information Centre.
