The Austrian National Bank will open a special exhibition on gold at its Money Museum in Vienna on Sept. 1, 2026. Running through June 25, 2027, the exhibition will cover gold’s origins and its uses as jewelry, a means of payment, a medical product and a monetary reserve, including the bank’s holdings of 280 metric tons. The exhibition will be the last at the existing museum before it closes for modernization on June 26, 2027. The museum is scheduled to reopen in early 2029 with more than twice its current exhibition space.
