The National Bank of Moldova published monthly statistics on newly attracted term deposits, showing that new term deposits totalled MDL 6,046.3m in December 2024, up 94.3% from November 2024 and 2.1% from December 2023. Average nominal rates on new deposits edged up to 3.24% for deposits in national currency and 1.74% for deposits in foreign currency. Deposits in national currency accounted for 64.0% of the total (MDL 3,867.7m), while foreign-currency deposits totalled MDL 2,178.6m. By maturity, deposits with terms of 2 to 5 years represented 55.9% of new term deposits, followed by 6 to 12 months at 23.8%. Individuals placed MDL 3,957.2m (+82.8% m/m), mainly at maturities of 2 to 5 years (44.8%) and 6 to 12 months (29.9%), with average rates rising to 3.56% in national currency and 1.63% in foreign currency. Corporate deposits in national currency reached MDL 1,565.3m (2.7 times higher m/m) and foreign-currency deposits MDL 471.3m (+30.9% m/m), with average rates at 2.83% in national currency (down 0.16 percentage points) and 2.16% in foreign currency (up 0.01 percentage points).
