The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau issued a statement noting that President Trump designated Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent as Acting Director of the CFPB on January 31, 2025. Bessent said he looked forward to working with the CFPB to advance the administration’s agenda to lower costs for Americans and accelerate economic growth. The statement also reiterated the CFPB’s role in implementing and enforcing federal consumer financial law and in promoting fair, transparent, and competitive markets for consumer financial products.
