The Bank of the Republic of Burundi has opened its new Buhumuza agency to serve the province and communities across eastern and northeastern Burundi. The branch brings central bank services closer to users who previously had to travel to Bujumbura or other provinces, supporting the national decentralization of public services. The agency will facilitate public revenue collection through the Treasury Single Account and deposit and withdrawal operations for local financial institutions. It will also support regional financial inclusion and the rollout of BurundiPay, the interoperable instant payment system launched earlier in 2026.
