Ceres moderated a forum bringing together six candidates for California Insurance Commissioner for a discussion on climate risk, insurance affordability, the California FAIR Plan, resiliency measures and the future of California’s insurance market. The 90-minute session, held in San Francisco as part of SF Climate Week and hosted with California Forward, Extreme Weather Survivors, The Greenlining Institute and United Policyholders, featured State Sen. Ben Allen, State Sen. Steven Bradford, Merritt Farren, Jane Kim, Stacy Korsgaden and Patrick Wolff. Discussion topics included the growth of California’s FAIR Plan, increasing residential resiliency through the newly enacted Wildfire Prepared Home program, and insurance company data collection, in the context of insurers pulling back from high-risk markets and the estimated USD 250 billion in damages from the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. Ceres indicated that edited video from the event would be made available early the following week.
