The Central Bank of Luxembourg (BCL) published provisional statistics showing the aggregate balance sheet total of Luxembourg credit institutions reached EUR 969,410 million at 31 January 2025, up from EUR 957,831 million at 31 December 2024, an increase of 1.21%. On a year-on-year basis, the aggregate balance sheet total increased by 2.84%. On the asset side, the monthly increase was mainly driven by higher claims on other banks and deposit-taking institutions, while on the liability side it mainly reflected higher commitments to other sectors. The interbank balance, defined as the difference between interbank claims and interbank liabilities, rose by EUR 8,006 million (3.49%) to EUR 237,399 million at end-January 2025. Loans to non-bank customers increased by EUR 2,134 million (1.9%) between December 2024 and January 2025 and by EUR 1,765 million (1.56%) over 12 months; over the same 12-month period, lending to non-financial corporations fell by EUR 3,909 million (-14.06%), household mortgage lending increased by EUR 201 million (0.49%) and lending to other financial intermediaries rose by EUR 5,882 million (16.05%). Resident non-bank deposits rose by EUR 9,075 million (3.14%) between December 2024 and January 2025 and by EUR 25,674 million (9.43%) over 12 months. Over the year, deposits from other financial intermediaries increased by EUR 16,706 million (9.32%) and represented 65.7% of the total at 31 January 2025, while household deposits increased by EUR 1,730 million (3.77%), non-financial corporate deposits by EUR 3,522 million (15.16%) and deposits from other sectors by EUR 3,716 million (15.49%). Separately, the BCL reported a required reserve requirement of EUR 6,365 million for the 5 February to 11 March 2025 maintenance period, up EUR 13 million from the previous period.
