The Banking Agency of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Sarajevo Economic Institute presented baseline research showing that adult financial literacy scores 57.4 out of 100, while 47.1% of surveyed third and fourth-year high school students fall below the basic level. The findings will inform priorities, an action plan and educational materials for different target groups under the federation’s financial literacy improvement project. Adults showed broad awareness of inflation and loan interest, recognized by 84.5% and 80.7% of respondents, respectively, but weaker understanding of risk diversification and compound returns. Although 78.2% pay bills on time, only 40.5% set long-term goals, 16.2% systematically plan and monitor their finances, and 39.4% check website security. The findings support greater emphasis on practical financial and digital skills, earlier financial education in schools, clearer information on financial product costs and broader investment options.
