The U.S. Department of Justice secured the extradition of Davud Ansariy from Georgia to face charges in federal court in Brooklyn of conspiring to provide and providing material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham and the al-Nusrah Front. Ansariy, who was arrested in Georgia in August 2026 and extradited on Sept. 23, is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment and faces up to 35 years in prison if convicted. Prosecutors allege that Ansariy led a primarily Brooklyn-based network known as the “Tea Party” that raised funds, arranged travel and supported people seeking to fight in Syria. The network allegedly financed at least three individuals’ travel to Syria in 2013 and supported fighters’ families and the families of those killed. Ansariy left the United States for Turkey in May 2016, five days after a co-conspirator’s arrest, and remained a fugitive after a federal grand jury indicted him in November 2021.

The U.S. Department of Justice secured the extradition of Davud Ansariy from Georgia to face charges of supporting ISIS and the al-Nusrah Front. Prosecutors allege that he led a Brooklyn-based fundraising and travel network for aspiring foreign fighters before fleeing the United States in 2016. He faces up to 35 years in prison if convicted.
