The Insurance Supervision Institute of Mozambique reported on its participation in Global Money Week, running insurance-focused talks, awareness sessions and recreational activities for secondary school students in Inhambane province. The programme took place from 20 to 26 March 2023 under the theme “Plan your Money, plant your Future”, with the opening ceremony hosted by Escola Secundária 29 de Setembro da Maxixe on 20 March 2023 and reaching more than 700 students. The Institute delivered an interactive session on the basics and importance of insurance, covering concepts including policyholder, insurance policy, risk, insured, claim and premium, and explaining the role of an insurance contract in preparing for future uncertain and potentially harmful events. Activities were also held at schools in Maxixe and Inhambane including Escola Secundária 1º de Maio de Chicuque, Escola Secundária 18 de Novembro, Escola Secundária Emília Dausse, Escola Secundária 3 de Fevereiro and Escola Secundária de Muelé, marking the Institute’s fifth participation as part of its insurance financial education strategy linked to Mozambique’s National Financial Inclusion Strategy. Global Money Week is a Child and Youth Finance International initiative organised since 2018 by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s International Network on Financial Education, promoting healthy financial habits for children and young people through interactive activities.
