National Bank of Moldova Governor Anca Dragu spoke at the first Blockchain Intelligence Forum, held within the Digital Innovation Summit Bucharest, outlining the central bank role in the financial sector’s digital transformation, including adoption of artificial intelligence, blockchain and stronger cybersecurity standards. She also reiterated Moldova’s commitment to align its financial legislation with European standards in the context of the country’s European Union accession process, describing the harmonisation process as advanced. Dragu pointed to National Bank of Moldova initiatives to modernise the payments system, strengthen cybersecurity, and advance work related to distributed ledger technology (DLT). She also referenced Moldova’s alignment with the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) and other relevant EU rules, and framed financial digitalisation as delivering practical outcomes such as lower fees, increased access, faster services and higher productivity.
