The Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) held a specialised training programme for claims officers and legal officers from insurance companies to strengthen understanding of insurance fraud and approaches to prevent and eliminate it. The Insurance Commissioner, Dr Baghayo Saqware, noted that TIRA has identified various fraudulent practices in the insurance sector and has established a Fraud Control Unit to curb them, urging claims and legal teams to work closely with TIRA by reporting fraud indicators to protect market integrity. Okoka Mgavilenzi, Manager of the Fraud Control Unit, emphasised that the unit is ready to collaborate with insurers’ claims and legal functions on an ongoing basis to identify, investigate and address fraud incidents. The training also involved certified fraud examiners from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), represented by its president Ali Mabrouk, who indicated ACFE would continue working with TIRA and the insurance market on capacity building to improve the effectiveness of insurance fraud controls.
