Ceres announced that Steven M. Rothstein, Managing Director of the Ceres Accelerator for Sustainability Capital Markets, has been named Chief Program Officer, with responsibility for overseeing all aspects of the organization’s programmatic work. The role includes leading program strategies, initiatives, and campaigns intended to advance Ceres’ mission in the US and globally. The appointment builds on Rothstein’s leadership of the Ceres Accelerator, where he has led advocacy and engagement with financial regulators, institutional investors, banks, and insurers on climate-related financial risks and opportunities. Ceres highlighted work since the Accelerator’s 2019 launch, including advocacy linked to the US Securities and Exchange Commission’s climate-risk disclosure rule for publicly traded US companies, California’s analysis of insurers’ climate disclosure surveys and a consumer-oriented database of green insurance policies, support for the state’s Climate-Related Financial Risk Act, and the Freedom to Invest initiative launched in 2023 to counter legislative efforts restricting consideration of climate risk in investment decision-making.
