Mexico’s National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF) published its 2024 consumer complaint statistics for Nayarit, reporting 3,522 complaints, a 2.8% decline from 2023, representing 1.4% of complaints nationwide. It also reported MXN 15.1 million recovered for users, down 20.9% year on year. Credit cards, special credit reports, and savings accounts were the most complained-about products, together accounting for 47.3% of cases. The main causes were failure to update credit history, unrecognised purchases, and unrecognised account charges, which collectively represented 25.2% of complaints. Multiple banking accounted for 56.7% of complaints, followed by credit information companies (13.8%) and insurers (13.4%); within multiple banking, 47.5% of cases were resolved in users’ favour, 34.8% involved older adults, and 49.9% were linked to potential fraud, mainly unrecognised purchases and charges. CONDUSEF also reiterated the availability of online complaint and reporting channels, including its electronic complaint portal and the REDECO debt collection registry, and warned that its procedures are free and do not require intermediaries.
