South Korea's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Lee Hyung-il met Bank of Korea Governor Hyun Song Shin and agreed to strengthen coordination on economic and monetary policy, integrated monitoring of financial, foreign exchange and property markets, and early responses to emerging risks. The meeting took place six days after Lee assumed office amid heightened market volatility and external uncertainty. The officials assessed that stronger semiconductor activity is supporting exports, investment and economic growth, while rising interest rates in major economies, geopolitical risks and continued cost pressures on households remain concerns. They also highlighted growing links among financial, foreign exchange and property markets. Cooperation will extend to longer-term issues including internationalization of the won, digital finance, potential growth and broader distribution of growth benefits, using existing market review meetings and other communication channels.
