The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) issued a warning after receiving reports that counterfeit surety bond insurance policies are being marketed in Italy in the name of Nordic Guarantee Försäkringsaktiebolag, which has disowned the policies. The insurer also notified IVASS that a certified email address circulating in connection with the offers is not attributable to the company. Nordic Guarantee Försäkringsaktiebolag is a Swedish insurer supervised by Sweden’s Finansinspektionen and is authorised to operate in Italy under the freedom to provide services in non-life class 15 (Surety). IVASS urged consumers to exercise caution and to verify, before paying any premium, that quotes and contracts relate to properly authorised insurers and intermediaries by consulting IVASS’s online lists and registers, including authorised insurers operating in Italy, firms authorised for the surety line with information on telematic policy verification, and the registers of Italian and EU intermediaries, as well as IVASS’s lists of monitored websites and alerts on counterfeits and unauthorised entities.
