Ireland’s Department of Finance announced that Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe has appointed Michael Byrne, Chief Executive Officer of Core Credit Union and a founding Director of CU Mortgage Services DAC, as a new member of the Credit Union Advisory Committee (CUAC). Byrne replaces outgoing member Michael Ahern and will serve until 31 December 2027. The announcement follows the recent appointments of Therese Conway and Professor Brian O’Kelly to CUAC. The committee advises the Minister for Finance under Section 180 of the Credit Union Act 1997 on matters including improving credit union management and protecting the interests of members and creditors; it meets monthly in the Department of Finance, which provides secretariat support. The Department also published the updated composition of the seven-member committee with effect from 1 February 2025.
