The U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs' ranking member, Elizabeth Warren, sent a letter to President Trump urging him to immediately rescind Bill Pulte's appointment as acting Director of National Intelligence. Warren argued that Pulte's conduct as Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency shows a pattern of abusing authority and sensitive information, creating what she described as a national security risk, and said Trump's indication that Pulte will not be the permanent DNI does not resolve the issue. She called for Pulte to be replaced with a qualified leader. In the letter, Warren pointed to Trump's comment that Pulte may be looking into 'rigged elections' in his acting role, which she said raised concerns that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence could be used to advance election denial claims. She also cited a Government Accountability Office investigation into Pulte's potential abuse of power at the Federal Housing Finance Agency, including his use of sensitive financial information in accusations against New York Attorney General Letitia James, Senator Adam Schiff and Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, and argued that his lack of relevant experience makes him unfit to lead the intelligence community even temporarily.
