The Italian Institute for Insurance Supervision (IVASS) ordered the cessation of unauthorised insurance intermediation carried out through three websites and instructed providers operating in Italy to block access to them. Blocking activity is underway and, for technical reasons, may take a few days to be fully effective. The sites named in the order are polizza.alessandroassicurazioni.it, preventivi.alessandroassicurazioni.it and prysmianriass.it (including their www versions). IVASS published the cessation orders in its “Difendiamoci dalle truffe” section and reported that the total number of websites subject to such orders has risen to 235 since it began exercising its blocking power in November 2023. The authority also urged consumers to be cautious with insurance offers received via the internet, phone or instant messaging, particularly for short-term motor third-party liability cover, and to verify before paying premiums that quotes and contracts relate to authorised insurers and intermediaries by checking IVASS’s online registers and lists, including the Single Register of Insurance Intermediaries (RUI).
