The Central Bank of Paraguay published an update on its hosting of the 118th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Association of Supervisors of Banks of the Americas in Asuncion from May 19 to 21, 2026. The meeting brought together supervisory authorities and central bank representatives from across the Americas and Spain and was presented as reinforcing Paraguay’s role in the regional banking supervision agenda. Discussions centered on two supervisory themes. Participants reviewed geopolitical risk management, concluding that these risks have become more significant globally and require banks to be prepared to manage their effects and preserve resilience. They also examined the expanding use of artificial intelligence in banking, noting its progression from fraud detection and credit risk assessment to broader uses in process automation, service personalization and regulatory compliance, with effects on operational efficiency and enterprise-wide risk management. The Central Bank of Paraguay said the meeting also strengthened its participation in ASBA as representative of the Southern Cone region and highlighted its role as a venue for technical cooperation and supervisory exchange.
