National Bank of Moldova Governor Anca Dragu took part in a high-level debate organised by the World Bank in Washington focused on promoting financial inclusion as a driver of sustainable economic development in Europe and Central Asia, with a particular emphasis on women’s economic empowerment. Dragu highlighted Moldova’s progress in digitising financial services and initiatives aimed at widening access to modern financial tools. Key examples cited included the MIA instant payments system, launched in March 2024, which enables rapid and affordable electronic transfers for citizens and companies and is used by one in three Moldovans with “bankable potential”. Dragu also referenced the March 2025 launch of “FinanciarELE – the Women’s Leadership Community”, which offers mentoring, professional training and career opportunities to support women’s participation in the financial and banking sector, with the event held alongside Moldova’s participation in the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings.
