The Brunei Darussalam Ministry of Finance and Brunei Darussalam Central Bank supported a capital market development seminar focused on sukuk as an alternative financing instrument and the process for issuing sukuk locally. Organized by the Credit Guarantee and Investment Facility, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam and the International Capital Market Association, the event brought together almost 100 policymakers, regulators and potential issuers from government-linked companies and private corporations. The seminar covered issuance processes, key Shariah considerations, international practices and a case study of a guaranteed sukuk transaction in the region. Participants also discussed greater collaboration, capacity building and corporate participation to develop Brunei Darussalam’s local-currency corporate sukuk market, while the Credit Guarantee and Investment Facility indicated its readiness to provide credit guarantee support for further market development.
