The Central Bank of Brazil has decreed the extrajudicial liquidation of Banco Pleno S.A. and extended the special regime to Pleno Distribuidora Títulos e Valores Mobiliários S.A., both part of the Pleno prudential conglomerate. The conglomerate is classified as small and falls within the S4 segment of Brazil’s prudential framework, with Banco Pleno as the lead institution. It represents 0.04% of total assets and 0.05% of total funding in the National Financial System. The liquidation was based on a deterioration in the institution’s economic and financial condition, including worsening liquidity, as well as breaches of applicable rules and non-compliance with Central Bank determinations. The Central Bank indicated it will continue to take measures to establish responsibilities, which may result in administrative sanctions and referrals to competent authorities where legally applicable. Under the law, the assets of the institution’s controllers and managers become unavailable.
