The Guernsey Financial Services Commission has detailed the Bailiwick’s application for Qualified Jurisdiction status under the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ mutual recognition framework. Guernsey submitted the application in July, and recognition would improve the terms on which its insurers could write business in US states. The application covers Guernsey’s insurance regulatory framework, supervisory and enforcement practices, reinsurer performance, cooperation arrangements, enforcement of final US judgments and solvent schemes of arrangement. The Commission highlighted its statutory information-sharing powers and participation in 84 bilateral and multilateral memoranda of understanding. It will work with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners over the coming months as the application is evaluated.
