The National Bank of the Republic of Tajikistan reported on Tajikistan’s participation in the Islamic Finance and Business Forum held in Astana, Kazakhstan on 19 May 2025, where Kibryo Uroqova, head of the Islamic banking supervision unit, attended remotely and received a regional WOMANi award. The forum, organised by the Association of Islamic Finance and Business (AIFB), TIDAM and the Astana International Financial Centre, brought together banking regulators from Central Asian countries and the Russian Federation, regional Islamic credit institutions, international organisations and experts. Discussions covered regional economic themes including trade, transport, energy, tourism and digital and financial technologies, alongside Islamic finance topics such as the role of regulators and the contribution of women. Under the auspices of Cambridge IFA, the WOMANi-Women in Islamic Business&Finance awards were presented, with Uroqova recognised as one of the most influential women in Islamic business and finance in the Commonwealth of Independent States region and named “Professional Woman of the Year 2025” for her contribution to building regulation and supervision of Islamic credit institutions and to developing Islamic finance regulatory standards through an Islamic Financial Services Board working group.
