The European Central Bank published weekly balance sheet data showing total assets and liabilities of EUR 5.948 trillion as of Oct. 2. Transactions reduced the balance sheet by EUR 5.954 billion from the previous week, while quarter-end adjustments added EUR 56.519 billion, largely reflecting revaluations of gold and other positions. On the asset side, monetary policy lending to euro area credit institutions rose by EUR 9.052 billion through transactions, driven mainly by main refinancing operations. Securities held for monetary policy purposes declined by EUR 8.008 billion through transactions and EUR 4.506 billion through adjustments. On the liability side, euro area credit institutions’ monetary policy deposits fell by EUR 4.545 billion, as a EUR 7.724 billion decline in current accounts exceeded a EUR 3.179 billion increase in the deposit facility. Revaluation accounts increased by EUR 53.444 billion through quarter-end adjustments.
