The Central Bank of Peru reported that the rolling four-quarter current account surplus reached 4.5% of gross domestic product in the second quarter of 2026, up 2.1 percentage points from a year earlier. This marked three consecutive years of surplus and 11 quarters of positive cumulative results. The quarterly surplus was USD 2.625 billion, USD 1.086 billion higher than in the second quarter of 2025. The increase primarily reflected a USD 3.118 billion widening of the goods trade surplus, supported by improved terms of trade, higher mineral export prices and increased gold and copper shipment volumes. Higher secondary income, including nonresident income tax receipts, also contributed.
