The Jersey Financial Services Commission has issued a fraud warning about scammers impersonating Nedbank Private Wealth Limited, Jersey Branch after a Jersey resident was cold-called by fraudsters posing as the firm’s fraud team. The commission said the scammers spoofed a legitimate NPWL telephone number, +44 1624 645000, and used the name Michael Stevens when contacting Jersey residents. The warning says the scam involves spoofing techniques that can extend across phone calls, emails, websites and text messages to make contact appear genuine. To verify whether communications are legitimate, the commission directed people to use only the contact details on NPWL’s official website or on the reverse of an NPWL debit card, and to follow the bank’s published fraud guidance. It also urged the public to treat unexpected calls, texts and emails with caution, avoid acting under pressure, and never disclose personal or banking information, passwords, security details or one-time passcodes. Anyone who believes they have been targeted should report the matter to the JFSC’s Enforcement Division, the States of Jersey Police and their bank if a payment has already been made.
