The Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Hong Kong Association of Banks have announced a further extension of credit support for individuals affected by the Tai Po fire. All 28 retail banks will extend the repayment grace period for affected customers’ existing mortgages, personal loans and credit card borrowing by another six months, through the end of May 2027. The relief covers both principal and interest. Banks holding mortgages on Wang Fuk Court properties will also continue to support borrowers who sell their property rights to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. This includes extending the grace period on original mortgage payments until a newly purchased unit is ready for occupancy and handling mortgage arrangements flexibly to support customers’ longer-term housing plans. The measures build on support introduced in March 2026 for the government’s long-term housing arrangements for Wang Fuk Court.
