The Malta Financial Services Authority, working with GBSB Business School, held a high-level workshop for a delegation from the Parliament of Ghana focused on corporate governance, board effectiveness and enforcement practices in Malta’s financial services sector. The session was positioned as an international cooperation and knowledge-exchange exercise aimed at strengthening institutional capacity in governance and supervision. The programme covered the MFSA’s mandate and strategic priorities, Malta’s corporate governance framework and the MFSA Corporate Governance Code, and how local standards align with international best practice. Banking-sector governance was addressed through supervisory expectations and priorities, including lessons drawn from recent global developments, and the workshop concluded with case studies of governance failures and subsequent MFSA enforcement actions, emphasising effective oversight, independent directors and robust control frameworks. The MFSA indicated it expects continued collaboration with international partners on developing sound governance frameworks.
