The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert to the public after The Bank of East Asia, Limited reported fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens to the HKMA. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, nor will they request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded hyperlinks. Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted transactions through or in response to the fraudulent websites or login screens is advised to contact the bank using the details in The Bank of East Asia press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
