The Central Bank of Montenegro has amended the operating rules for its payment system to extend weekday processing until 8:00 pm, so that payments initiated later in the day are credited to the recipient’s account on the same day. Under the new arrangements, RTGS (Real-Time Gross Settlement) payments exceeding EUR 1,000 submitted by 8:00 pm on weekdays are immediately credited, while DNS (Deferred Net Settlement) payments up to EUR 1,000 submitted by 7:30 pm reach the recipient the same day. The DNS timetable is also expanded from three to six daily clearing cycles, following a decision adopted by the Central Bank of Montenegro Council on 9 July 2025. The modernization roadmap includes extending payment system operations to weekends and public holidays from 20 October 2025, adding 118 operating days per year, and progressing toward the introduction of a TIPS Clone system under which real-time payments are expected to be available from July 2026 on a 24/7/365 basis.
