The Reserve Bank of Australia reported total assets and liabilities of AUD 357.086 billion at the close of business on September 9, down AUD 813 million over the week. Gold and foreign exchange assets fell AUD 468 million, mainly reflecting transactions, while Australian dollar investments rose AUD 130 million, primarily because of earnings and valuation changes. On the liabilities side, Exchange Settlement balances increased AUD 2.457 billion, while other deposits declined AUD 2.009 billion. Other liabilities fell AUD 846 million, and other reserves and current-year earnings decreased AUD 475 million to negative AUD 14.741 billion.
