The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) announced that Toshiyuki Miyoshi, Vice Minister for International Affairs at Japan’s Financial Services Agency, has been elected Chair of the IAIS Executive Committee, succeeding Shigeru Ariizumi, who stepped down after a two-year term. Under Ariizumi’s tenure, the IAIS highlighted the finalisation of the Insurance Capital Standard (ICS), delivery of the Association’s next five-year strategic plan, and deeper engagement in global policy discussions including natural catastrophe insurance protection gaps. The Executive Committee provides overall strategic direction and manages IAIS activities under the Association’s by-laws, and comprises 40 member representatives from advanced and developing economies across all regions. Miyoshi’s term as Chair runs until November 2027.
