The Bank of Cape Verde announced it will put a commemorative CVE 200 coin into circulation on 22 December 2025, marking 50 years of Cape Verde’s national independence, in line with Decree-Law No. 17/2025. The coin will be issued in a normal cupronickel finish and in special editions, including brilliant uncirculated in Nordic gold and a numismatic proof in silver. The obverse features the archipelago map and the national flag, alongside the inscriptions “Liberdade, Democracia e Solidariedade”, “50 anos” and “1975-2025”, while the reverse combines republic symbols with the face value and palm motifs. Normal and special-finish coins can be purchased at the Bank of Cape Verde and through numismatic agents, with distribution to the public carried out via credit institutions.
