The Financial Action Task Force of Latin America has published an update on a cooperation agreement signed with the Inter-American Federation of Insurance Companies, or FIDES, during its XLIX Plenary of Representatives in Lima on July 17, 2026. The agreement is aimed at strengthening public-private cooperation on anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing and counter-proliferation financing across the region. A concrete outcome of the partnership is an ongoing regional sectoral risk assessment of money laundering and terrorist financing in the insurance sector. The project brings together competent authorities and insurance industry representatives to identify threats, vulnerabilities, mitigating factors and risks affecting the sector in GAFILAT member countries. GAFILAT described it as its first regional sectoral risk assessment developed jointly with a private-sector representative, with the study intended to improve understanding of insurance-sector risks, support effective use of the risk-based approach and inform national and sectoral risk assessments in member countries.
