Payments Canada announced a leadership change on its board, naming Kevan Cowan as chair. Cowan succeeds Garry Foster, who completed a five-year term as chair, and will lead the board’s governance and strategic priorities as Payments Canada moves toward the planned Q4 2026 launch of Canada’s Real-Time Rail payment system. Cowan has served as an independent director on the Payments Canada board since 2024. The organization also added Kristal Au-Yong and Tamara Vrooman as independent directors and Daniel Johnson as a member director, while renewing member director Johanne Duhaime’s term until 2029. Payments Canada said Garry Foster, John Sheridan and Rob Paterson are leaving the board.
