The South African Reserve Bank published its International Reserves and Foreign Currency Liquidity Template, reporting the short-term foreign-currency assets and liabilities of the Reserve Bank and South Africa’s central government as at end-September 2025. Official reserve assets were USD 69,739 million on an approximate market value basis. The template reported other foreign currency assets of USD -18 million, including central government deposits (working balances) of USD 1 million, and financial derivatives not included in official reserve assets of USD -19 million. Predetermined short-term net drains included central-government foreign-currency outflows over the following year of USD 2,100 million in principal and USD 1,803 million in interest, alongside a net long position of USD 1,118 million and a net short position of USD 60 million in forwards and futures versus the domestic currency. Contingent short-term net drains showed other contingent liabilities of USD 1,242 million, comprising USD 878 million of principal and USD 364 million of interest, while the currency composition memorandum item split international reserves into USD 66,333 million in currencies in the Special Drawing Rights basket (including gold) and USD 3,406 million in currencies outside the basket.
