The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of the Republic of Kazakhstan has issued a consumer warning on telephone fraud, with particular emphasis on scams aimed at older people. It said fraudsters often impersonate banks, law enforcement agencies or other state bodies, claim that money is being withdrawn or illegal transactions are being arranged, and use psychological pressure to push victims into urgent action, including transferring funds to a purported safe account. The agency said scammers may also try to establish whether a person can use mobile banking, provide step-by-step payment instructions, and persuade them to install applications that allow remote access to their device and banking services. Its guidance is not to trust unknown callers even if they know personal details, to verify any claim independently through official contact centers, and to end calls from anyone claiming to be a relative in an emergency before calling back on a known number. It also warned consumers never to disclose personal data, bank card details, expiry dates, CVV or CVC codes, code words, SMS codes or account balance information, noting that banks, law enforcement bodies and other financial institutions do not request confidential client data by phone. The agency also recalled that the Fingramota.kz project, supported by the agency and Halyk Bank, is conducting educational activities to improve financial and digital literacy among older citizens. The program focuses on preventing financial fraud, protecting personal data and using digital financial services safely, with related materials available on Fingramota.kz.
