The Egmont Group published an update on its cooperation with the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF), highlighting discussions at MENAFATF’s 40th Plenary that underscored the role of Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) in combating money laundering, predicate crimes and terrorist financing in the MENA region and beyond. At the Heads of FIU Forum, Egmont Group Chair Elzbieta Franków-Jaskiewicz emphasised the operational importance of FIUs and pointed to the Egmont Group’s longstanding partnership with the region. The release also highlighted the role of Vice-Chair and Regional Representative Sheika May Al Khalifa in fostering collaboration, and referenced MENAFATF President Samya Abou Sharif in the context of continued engagement between the two bodies.
