Peru's Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS) placed Caja Rural de Ahorro y Crédito del Centro (CRAC Del Centro) and Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito Kuria (Coopac Kuria) under intervention due to insolvency. The action activates the Deposit Insurance Fund for eligible CRAC Del Centro depositors up to PEN 117,200, while the Cooperative Deposit Fund will not be activated during Coopac Kuria’s intervention. CRAC Del Centro recorded a 56.26% decline in its regulatory capital over the past 12 months to PEN 7.049 million, meeting an intervention ground under the General Law of the Financial and Insurance System. The SBS attributed the deterioration to ongoing losses linked to deficient credit management and insufficient shareholder capital support despite repeated capital contribution requests. For Coopac Kuria, the SBS determined negative equity of PEN -21.99 million as of 31 December 2025 and noted that the cooperative failed to evidence compliance with an SBS requirement to reverse insolvency within 30 calendar days. The supervisor also flagged a PEN 6.76 million provisioning shortfall tied to an uncollectible loan to Grupo Kuria and stated it is conducting further investigation given missing support for the credit assessment and formalisation of the transactions. The SBS will appoint representatives to convene a General Assembly of Coopac Kuria members, with the call to be published in El Peruano and a widely circulated Lima newspaper, to explain the intervention and the legal deadline to remedy the cause. For CRAC Del Centro, the SBS will announce from 20 April the institution that will handle deposit repayments, and borrowers of both entities are required to continue making scheduled loan payments through the collection channels specified by the SBS; the Coopac Kuria intervention is described as temporary, with a maximum duration of 45 calendar days.
