The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic inaugurated its new building in Bishkek in a ceremony attended by President Sadyr Japarov, bringing a long-delayed headquarters project into operation. The President highlighted that the site includes what he described as the country’s largest vault, built to high international standards and capable of storing up to 1,000 tonnes of gold, and reiterated that maintaining the stability of the Kyrgyz som is the central bank’s primary task. He also set out priorities for the regulator covering modernisation of the banking sector, innovation, cybersecurity and financial literacy, while Governor Melis Turghunbaev said the project had been unfinished for about 30 years and that the central bank would continue work to raise the transparency and security of the banking environment in line with international requirements.
